  1. Heat broiler. Slice an Italian rustic bread (such as pan pugliese) on the diagonal 1/2 inch thick, then cut slices in half. Place bread on a rimmed baking sheet. Brush with extra-virgin olive oil and season with salt, if desired, and broil until lightly browned around the edges. Store in an airtight container at room temperature up to 3 days.
